Here, we (1) quantify the bioenergetics of blue swimmer crab, (2) estimate consumption rates, and (3) develop these relationships in a stocking model to assess appropriate release densities and associated trophic impacts. Static respirometry was used to measure the resting metabolic rate (RMR) of blue swimmer crab at three temperatures (19, 24, and 29°C). RMR was found to increase with temperature (Q10 = 2.32), and was 73% higher when crabs were at a premoult or moulting stage. Parameters derived from respirometry experiments were applied to estimate blue swimmer crab stocking density in a south-eastern Australian estuary, by adapting an existing production-based simulation model. The model estimated a median stocking density of ~1.2 crabs per 100 m2. A sensitivity analysis showed that the growth rate was the most influential parameter in this model, showing the importance of this parameter when assessing stocking scenarios.]]> Tue 13 Sep 2022 14:23:56 AEST ]]> The medical complications of alcohol use: understanding mechanisms to improve management https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:163 Thu 25 Jul 2013 09:09:40 AEST ]]> Nutrient composition and health beneficial effects of macadamia nuts https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:8642 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:34:32 AEDT ]]> Community-based interventions for enhancing access to or consumption of fruit and vegetables (or both) among five to 18-year olds https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10520 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:13:59 AEDT ]]> Assessing pregnant women's compliance with different alcohol guidelines: an 11-year prospective study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10525 0.01; 75% v 80% for compliance with low alcohol guidelines, P>0.01). Over 90% of women drank alcohol before pregnancy and prior alcohol intake had a strong effect on alcohol intake during pregnancy, even at low levels (RR for zero alcohol, 0.21 [95% CI, 0.16–0.28]; RR for low alcohol, 0.91 [95% CI, 0.86–0.96]). RR for compliance with guidelines was 3.54 (95% CI, 2.85–4.40) for women who were pregnant while low alcohol intake was recommended, compared with those who were pregnant while zero alcohol guidelines were in place. Conclusion: The October 2001 change in alcohol guidelines does not appear to have changed behaviour.
